It Takes Guts Not to Get it Right — a Courage Booster

Dec 26th, 2011 | By Fabienne | Category: Au fil des jours, Boosters, Courage Boosters

How comfortable do you feel about making mistakes?

Why in heaven would I encourage people to make mistakes? Because it’s one of the most powerful ways to really and truly learn about risk management.  Obviously part of managing risks is about scenario planning. Yet how do you truly assess risk-taking? And learn to deal with them?

And how good are you at dealing with these mistakes?

Being used to assessing mistakes and dealing with them is one of the most effective ways. As it often happens – it’s hard to beat experience!

So if you have a few perfectionists on your team, one of these people who are extremely good at controlling and planning everything to avoid any possible mistake and problems… or if you are a perfectionist yourself, this week, be courageous and learn to deal with mistakes.

Your answer to these two questions probably says a lot about how effectively you manage risks!

Pick an area of your work with low importance and exposure. And release your “perfection control system” by about 10%. Try and anticipate what mistakes could thereby occur. And how you could best address them.

Come on – dare, and go for it!
