Authenticity, Courage and Warmth — a Tribute to Dan Rockwell

This name might not ring a bell.
Dan is one of these people who are incredibly famous… among specific groups of people. If neither leadership nor social networks or blogging are part of your interests, then you might wonder who that guy is.
Here is why I think it’s worth changing that…
Take a car accident, a blog and someone special…
Some time ago, I heard that Dan suffered a really heavy accident. I actually discovered it reading one of his posts. The man just emerged from some really heavy car accident, is still very limited in his movements and just starting to recover. And he’s back blogging.
He’s building on his accident, which nearly killed him. And writing about courage. Extracting a leadership lesson – a life lesson – from the very serious blow he just took and which will impact his life for the next months. Pulling the best of himself together to share, inspire and support others’ daily life and growth.
You get a leadership lesson by Dan Rockwell
This is why this post is a tribute to Dan, #leadershipfreak.
Because we can learn from him:
• Be authentic. When seeing such attitude, how could one doubt that Dan’s passion for leadership, learning and sharing are anything but authentic?
Find what it is that you sincerely care about, what makes you unique and focus on these traits and activities. Being authentic will give you strength, courage and inspire so many around you.
• Contribute. The minute he was able to write, that’s exactly what Dan did.
Whatever mood or situation you’re in, there is always something positive you can do. Contribute to something good for others, for the world around you. Seize every opportunity, no matter what happens to you. It’ll energize you and others. It’ll take you further. It’ll protect you from drowning in self-pity, procrastination or whatever personal traps we all have when we feel down.
Be Authentic • Contribute • Learn • Acknowledge
• Learn. Right after his accident, Dan started reflecting on what learning could be taken from it.
You’re successful – learn from it. You’ve just failed? learn from it. You’re immensely happy – learn from it. You’re feeling depressed? learn from it.
• Acknowledge. Some emergency specialists saved Dan’s life. His friends and family are supporting him. His readers and further community are supporting him with words and financial contribution to the huge medical costs related to his accident. Dan’s not missing a single opportunity to thank them.
Look around you. There probably are a bunch of people who’ve contributed to whatever is good or great in your life right now. Take the time to acknowledge their contribution. Thank them. It’ll boost both you and them to keep building on these good and great things in your lifes.
